We had to put our precious baby girl to sleep yesterday and it hurts so bad. She was the best dog you could ever have and we will miss her every day.

There is hope

I am so insanely sick of the winter. Have gone through almost four months of this horrible weather and want spring to come right away! I look at the calender and see it's only 3 weeks to daylight saving time. Moreover; only nine more weeks to summer vacation. I can do that. Yes I can!

Semlor!

Today I'm making "Semlor"! Swedish cardamom buns with almond paste and whipped cream! Have been craving them for weeks now and hoping the result is going to be way better than last year's batch which ended up in the trash.

Update: Didn't have any powdered sugar and the almond paste could have been a little fresher. But I succeeded!

Stroller - Check!

It's way early but there are a lot of things you have to buy before the baby comes. If it comes. Because it could die. My doctor said there is a 20% chance of having a miscarriage before week 14. I hit week 14 tomorrow. Today I don't feel pregnant at all. My belly is flatter than what it has been and the tiredness is gone. I have learned that the second trimester is called the ghost trimester, meaning you are pregnant but don't feel pregnant.

So anyhow, now to what I meant to tell you. I have bought a stroller! I knew I wanted a typical European pram stroller. They are expensive! I have been shopping around and with all the accessories they usually go for about $700.00. But I found one on EBay. A brand new one to a special price of $150 including shipping. So I didn't even hesitate. Zip zip and the deal was done. Will get here within two weeks. What do you think? Max thinks a stroller is unnecessary. In America people carry their babies in infant car seats. But I am Swedish. And I want a stroller.

It is always fun to read "The Record" in our local newspaper. Every day it's something in there that makes me laugh. This for example...

Jan 20

9:50 p.m. Police were called to a report of a suspicious incident in the 3300 block of Après Ski Way. A woman reported that her upstairs neighbors had started drilling holes through their floor into her living room, bedroom and kitchen area to spy on her. She reported that the people were also “getting heroin into her system via these portals.” She told police a maintenance man had sealed the portals once but they had returned. Officers checked the house and determined that the report was unfounded.

Makes me wonder...

So the city of Denver now has more "medical" marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks coffee shops and shortly our little town with 900 residents will get it's first dispensary. (Steamboat already has three of them)

Makes me wonder - why just not make the shit legal?

Spring spring, where are you spring? Two months to daylight savings. Beach, sand and sun haven't felt more desirable.

Blue sky, warm sun, and white long runs. It's my day off and I am going skiing!

Final Day

Another day of snowmobiling and powder skiing and Max has already decided to buy a machine for next year. I am not going to stop him, it's so much fun and that way we don't have to spend money on ski passes.

Today was also the last day on my break. I am so ready to go back to work. At this point I am actually bored with not having to work. Plus the stress of having to shop for food all the time is getting on my nerves. We are so spoiled with having all this food at work that we don't have to pay for. Don't understand how people who are not in food service handle it. :)

Champagne Powder

The new year could not have gotten a better start. We met up with some friends and went snowmobiling on Buff Pass. Snowmobiled and skied knee deep powder. My body is hurting today so it will be a nice day on top of the couch with a book and a movie or two. Zzzzz...

Today I took down the x-mas tree. Got depressed. But then relieved. Started daydreaming about spring. Spring which is only about 4 months away. Outside it's snowing. Everywhere I look I see snow. But...

Buffalo Farm

We been visiting a buffalo farm which is located 45 minutes from Steamboat. We went around on a sled helping with the feeding of the animals. It was great to see how well taken care of they are. I guess it is true what the owner said. They can leave whenever they feel like it so we better keep them happy. Buffaloes are really cool animals and we learned a bunch.

Out Skiing

This is how it looked like for most of the day yesterday so now I'm going skiing!

It has officially started. The break. The three and a half week long break. Feels absolutely wonderful!

I thought I was going to give you some updates on our x-mas tree. A few days ago a package arrived from Sweden. A Swedish "Julgransmatta"! And yesterday a cute ornament from Baltimore got delivered. Thanks to both the moms!!

I also noticed a little box underneath the tree which seems to have come out of nowhere. What can it be?!

I did it again!

I ordered another pair of boots! Brown boots. To celebrate the beginning of my break.

Treating Myself

After finishing up my x-mas shopping I went ahead and ordered myself a couple too. For example these boots. I figured I deserve them.

Pretty good

Yesterday we went to listen to the Steamboat Springs Orchestra and their holiday concert. It was pretty good and afterwards we went to Cafe Diva and to their "Date Night" which was also pretty good. I am also feeling preety good about this Monday and have started the countdown to x-mas break!

Here we go again..

Tonight is the annual x-mas party for the college. I must say I fear it a little. You never know what's going to happen.

Betty is sick...

Betty is sick. She needs a new alternator.

Today I learned that alternators are used in modern automobiles to charge the battery and to power a car's electric system when the engine is running. I also believe I have found a decent mechanic who is able to perform the surgery on Betty.

I have been outside in the cold for over an hour and I am so cold it hurts! When Betty wouldn't start a couple of people tried to help jump start her but she just wouldn't have it. Just when I thought Betty's life was about to come to an end they told me about this one amazing car doctor. He was able to come to our rescue within a minute and he did a quick but convincing diagnosis on Betty. She needs a new alternator or she'll stay in this coma for the rest of her life. Since my wish is to keep her around for a little longer I am going to purchase the essential organ tomorrow.

Today it's cold. Really cold! -25°C. Have a feeling Ugly Betty won't make it in to Steamboat. Actually, it's a good chance she won't even start.
